A1 — Nybegynner
The first level is about being understood at all. Short sentences, present tense and the words you meet every single day.
- Greetings and introducing yourself
- Numbers, prices, ordering food and buying tickets
- Simple questions: hva, hvor, når, hvor mye
- Understanding slow, clear everyday phrases
A2 — Grunnleggende
At A2 you handle short exchanges without switching to English, and you start reading simple letters and messages.
- Talking about family, work and your daily routine
- Past tense and future forms for everyday stories
- Short conversations at the shop, doctor or barnehage
- Reading simple public-service letters
Norwegian grammar, explained simply
Beginner Norwegian has a few patterns that cause most of the mistakes. Each one is explained with examples rather than tables of terminology.
- V2 word order: the verb stays in second position
- en / ei / et — noun gender and definite forms (bil → bilen)
- Verb tenses without irregular-verb overload
- Common preposition pairs: på, i, til, hos
Practise what you just learned
